I believe it will live well in cold weather, the display's are more effected by heat than cold. Like any electronic devise let it warm up some before using.

I agree that it is possible for your radio to overload the receive of another, since your neighbor has a Cobra radio, once to check that it is not that ask to borrow his microphone and try, the wiring (4pin) is the same on both radios.

Think about drilling the hole before you do it,, Browning hid it from the inexperienced for a reason. I would say that if the previous owner had the mic cranked all the way up he certainly did inside the radio as well.

Normally not all the caps need replacing, disc caps rarely go bad as with most resistors. First ones to look at and replace are the cardboard electrolytic, they will certainly go bad soon. The resistors to look closely at are the ceramic sand cased ones but look at them all for signs of overheating....

You can check the pot with an ohm meter, pop the wires off it and then try a VR to see if it is the control, it will also show you the problems is somewhere on the board receive section close to where the wires connect it.

I like the clarifier unlocked as long as you get the transmit to track with the receive, when you do the mod don't try to get over 5kc of slide or it will make the clarifier very touchy. The 10kc mod is what I would do to get the skipped channels/frequencies if you think it is worth it. I don't care...

This will happen every so often, clearing cache on the server. It’s no big deal, only thing you need to do is to login again. It will happen a lot more on your phones then the computer.

Try to get the lowest SWR on channel 19/20 then balance out the SWR on channel 1 and 40. Looking at the pics you might want to be a little farther away from the antenna. Kudos on the setup. BTW, who's chair did you use?

The only thing that really matters is keeping the same value as the one you remove and the voltage the same or higher, I've used different spacing on the contacts/leads, just makes it harder to set in place.

Was it doing this before the cap change, possible bad (new) cap showing up. Did you change out the tantalum caps in the receive section as well, they can be replaced with electrolytic of the same value. Last check the wiring, make sure all the connectors are tight.

You can find the adjustment info on CB Tricks for the radio. No, these two pots only increase the modulation, I don't recommend any others without proper aligning equipment. Depending on how well you know your neighbors you could probably get away with the Procomm Pat-12 installed on 10 or 20 feet of mast in the back of the house. I'm guessing you meant a General Lee HP40W, I don't see any benefit from doing this, the radio is a single mosfet final driving the 4 mosfet amplifier. In the worst case it would possibly overdrive the amp and sound terrible, most likely popping a couple of fet's.

I would say bare minimum would be 14A, I would go with larger to give the radio some breathing room so a 20A supply would work fine. Check out the sponsor's for prices on both, GI Joe's site normally has a recommendation for a power supply.
