Could just be a damaged Mic...Seeing how this is on a off road vehicle that doesn't get used much...moisture from just changing weather could have damaged it... Realized I never update this thread. The issue was with how the antenna was attached to the mount. once I got that corrected and had the plastic washer in the right place I was able to get the SWR tuned perfectly. Hahaha! guess I was right then...Reason I figured that might be the problem, was from...

DOn't recall seeing this thread in the past ever. My 95 Town Car has just under 195K (194XXX). Engines runs strong after swapping an o2 sensor and cleaning the EGR channels, but does have some minor problems, next on the list is pulling the valve covers and replacing the valve seals as it burns oil...

On SSB when you speak or whistle into the Mic, the needle should move yes...just be sure the RF Power and MIC Gain knob are turned up...

A 3w DK swinging to 6w's is about normal...If the radio had been modified in anyway (peaked and tuned) then it may swing up in the 20w range...

As for SSB...you won't have a DK...No DK on SSB just keying the Mic...also normal.

Your power supply also should be fine...

Depending on how well you know your neighbors you could probably get away with the Procomm Pat-12 installed on 10 or 20 feet of mast in the back of the house. Biggest difference between those two, is the M103 can only be set up for Horizontal polarization, or Vertical, but not both... The Y-Quad go's both ways...You would have two coax cables running to this antenna and back to your station where you would need a switch, so you can go from Vertical to Hor...

Yeah, HOA's wouldn't know a HAM antenna from a CB, or TV antenna... But as long as the HOA's can't see it, you can get away with it. Just have to be good at camouflage.

It may have been wired so if you were using a external speaker plugged into the PA, you would have "talk-Back"...Just need to reverse the mod.

Well, I have the HOA issue at my home-20 and so far I am getting away with a Patriot 12. I'm thinking of putting up an I-Com 2000 in the Spring on a pole and tripod in the front yard. Mount a flag on it, below the antenna, and put a light on it so I don't have to take it down, and then I'll be set....

HOA's have as much pull as the NRA when it comes to home owners...Most neighborhoods that have HOA's would not want radio towers with large beam antenna's in their neighborhoods as they see them as "eye-sores"...
