i used to leave mine in the truck. until it got stolon.now i bring it in at night. quick disconnects. What radio? Some radios that have the back-lit face plate will do that...there is a fix, it involves taking the cover off and pulling wires to the face plate lights away from the wires hooked to the mic jack. MaCo 500? Never herd of a MaCo 500...There's a MaCo Laser 500 8 element beam antenna that's around $900, which I'm sure is very good, if you have the cash and strong enough tower to stick it on!

Check SWR? could be the radio is not seeing the antenna...check inside the radio and see if the coax connector is connected...sometimes if the connector gets loose and spins, it can break the little center wire off the back of the connector.

If SWR is pegged out, I wouldn't be talking on it.

The local here that has one sounds good...BUT! If you think it's going to give you a studio-type sound..."It's Not"...They sound good, but nothing special...I guess if I had to compare it to another desk Mic, it sounds about the same as a Turner+3 or similar Mic...not "tinny" sounding like some D104...

you might look at the wire routing to the freq counter. some times you ca reroute the wires from the others and the buzzing will stop. You could probably just open the thing up, and see where the power connects and just rig up a old extension cord, and by-pass the plug... I've never done that with a AC radio, but done several 12v radios where I didn't have the right power cord...

If your wanting to run that radio, with that tube amp in your other post...I would leave the radio alone if it's DK'ing 4w's or less, and swinging 12w's or less...

The tube amp you have can handle a 4w dk...but can't handle much more than a 12w swing...

ok from what i read the super penetrator is a real good antenna the a99 is not bad which one you think is the best . thanks for your all help...
