almost guaranteed its your bottom shaft length. 12" is too short, i bet a 17" or 22" bottom shaft would be the way to go.

my best was from Hawaii to Scotland in 1986. i was running a Uniden PC-244 thru a weak T.S. DX250 (only did 180w) into a Penetrator antenna on the center of my car roof
(dodge dart). oh yea it was on 38 LSB, of course.....

i think im gonna just stick with the P10k because it tunes dead flat on my mobile and i don't want the headache of spending hours upon hours of trying to tune the antenna. i don't like finicky antennas that have to have no ground plane, half a ground plane, ground plane on one side only etc to tune ...

i agree with JJD, also im almost willing to bet there's a ground issue going on. or it could be a transmission line failure. run thru and maintenance the whole system and you will find the culprit.

ok well i guess i gotta get 150 amp anl fuses. cause the amp specs say 160 amp peak draw and anl fuses are 100, 150, 200, etc so i figured 150 amp fuse would pop so i got the 200 amp fuses. but it looks like the 150 amp fuses will work fine. cool, do local car audio shops usually carry anl fuses?

in the box they put four individual blade fuse holders and four 30 amp blade fuses. they are hooked up in parallel to the battery. the texas star web site specs says 160 amp draw as well as other sources.

the texas star sweet sixteen (8 pill) uses up to 160 amps to run but it is supplied with four 30 amp fuses, 120 amps total. logic says that if i fuse it with the 120 amp fuse it will pop the fuse all the time when i run the amp at full potential. so am i missing something here, is the 160amp rating ...

they are for boosting your receive. if they are good or not depends on how good of a circuit is used, if there is any filtering, how many db boost etc. if they are simple preamp circuits like you see in most cb rf amplifiers its not worth it cause you will pick up all kinds of random crap like radio...

they emailed me back and said they absolutely offer ssb in their amps, it costs $40.00. the option is even on the web page when you order.
im asking here cause it took them a week to get back to me via email so if i can avoid emailing them with this question i will, im sure their busy.

the driver transistor is still putting out enough voltage to be amplified by the final transistor. probably blew the driver and weakened the final hence the still apparent carrier but no increase in power on peaks (no swing/poor audio). i would test the audio transistor as well for damage/out of spec.

there is a definite height for antenna's but it depends on what you are trying to achieve. do you want maximum high angle radiation (local talk) or maximum low angle radiation (DX)? the feed point at a full wave above ground will yield the lowest angle of radiation without pattern skew. going higher...
