The macos are hard to beat for dual polarity.. I have used the sirio sy27-4, as in my avatar, both polarities and it works good either which way... I hear it all the time on my radio also, theres ALOT more signals being thrown around there than you would imagine. A cheap preamp such as the one in my palomar seems to just suck in about every kind of signal out there.

6lq6 is rated for 30 watts dissipation a piece. Add it all up and 3-4x that p.e.p. Like warlock said run it low and dont over drive it and it will last a long long time. Measures strength off a signal.. Just like a cb but handheld usually. Just as if you were holding the cb in your hand and watching the meter to find the location of a signal or radiation pattern of a beam. Commonly used for duck hunting.

Straight through the pc and eq software, adjust for taste.. For the speaker it is just a cheap little fisher one that came with a stereo I didnt use. Probably wont help you much unless you have a computer in there, but I tried LOL.

And its not from the talkback, something else is screwed up in my 959. Im not sure when or how it happened but now whenever I use the roger beep instead of one nice beep it goes, beep bleeep. I would use atleast 1.5 or 1.75 at the bottom if you can.. Then use telescoping sections to make the top lighter, thin wall if possible. Thats what I got, a refurbished galaxy 959 mobile for one of my base radios. Cant beat the price or performance for sideband rig. With a good mic they really are loud and sound great.

Do you want tube or transistors? Tube will be far cheaper and easier to build than a transistor amp. You can build a single 813 tube box for nearly nothing besides the tube, socket and maybe some capacitors.. Just depends on how resourceful you are, and what you want.

Don't even bother trying to modify that computer PS to run your radio. It is a switching supply that was never intended to run radio equipment, so is not sufficiently shielded to do so. Look for a regulated supply of over 4 amps for your radio. You should be able to find one without having to spend...

Any beam should work better than a ground plane at the same heigth.. But the antron might work better due to just being higher.. Stick the maco on the vertical side and try it, you might like it.. With all that work to set up a 2 element beam with a switcher and multiple coax runs, I think you might be much better off with a simple maco 3 element that would put a whoopin on that super scanner.. They really didnt work THAT good, they worked, marginally decent for what they were.
