High Pitch Frequency sound when unit is on

Hoping you guys can help. Just got a Galaxy 959 off of an online auction site. Unit appears to work well with receive and transmit. it is the DX959b version. When the unit is on there is a very high frequency sound that is constant, kind of like when your ears are ringing. Not real loud but just loud enough to annoy me. Any ideas? Happens inside on my bench too.

Since it came off an auction site I would bet that several fingers have already been in it. It is really hard to tell but most likely the radio is off frequency. It is SSB so does the sound change with the clarifier? I have also seen some where the filter caps were replaced with larger ones but the wrong value, this caused a sound in the receive.

I haven't cracked it open yet to look around. He said there were no mods done to it but you never know. The sound is constant and not coming from the speaker that I can tell. It happens when the squelch is up or down and when I am transmitting or not. Just a constant barely audible high pitch frequency like your ears are ringing.

I just opened it up. No signs of tampering. All of the solder joints look factory on it. Possible the power supply could be making that noise? When I get home I will hook it up to power and see if I can isolate where the noise is coming from.

Good point. What is the year, make, and model of the vehicle? Oops, said it was happening on the bench too.
