Question on Antenna

Hi folks I am a new member and need help I run a trap line with no cell service in this area I would like to run a CB in my
ATV side by side I do have a older radio General Grant that works really well in my Truck I would like to put this radio in my RZR but it is all Plastic what type of a antenna should I use

Hello motorhome,
Welcome to the forum. They are a neat ride those Polaris RZR's. In my opinion mount the radio and get an antenna mount that is a 3/8-24 thread then you can experiment with antennas. Put the mount as high as possible. My choice would be a 102" whip but anything 4ft or longer would work. The metal frame and roll-bar should be adequate for a counterpoise ground plane.

If you have a version with three upper crossbars on the cage, I would mount it to the middle of the center cross bar. If you have one of the two upper crossbar versions I would mount it to the middle of the rear cross bar. In either case, make sure their is an electrical connection to the metal of the crossbar.

With a setup like those vehicles, if you have any issues of being bitten by RF when transmitting, or any other interference/problems, or even problems with the vehicle when transmitting on the radio, you should look at adding an RF choke to the feed line near the feedpoint of the antenna. The lack of a flat sheet of metal immediately under the antenna may make such a choke beneficial.
