Loss of Power

#389334

Post by JetSetter »

Hello CBRT, I have a strange question. I had tuned my Galaxy DX959. DK was about 2-3 watts with a swing up to 10-12. I've noticed lately that my swing is only about 6 watts. Now, i did switch antennas from a 4 ft Firestick to a Browning BR-28. And also replaced the stock mic with a Superstar DM-1000 Tornado. Still trying to tweak that in. But would any of those cause my radio to lose output power.

What type of meter are you using or it this being seen on the radio's meter? A true way to test a radio is by using a 50ohm dummy load, using one takes away any changes like you said, ie; changed the antenna and saw a difference.

Yes, i have been going by the radios meter. I do have a Workman 3P, which i'll hook up in a bit. And i will look in to some dummy loads.

Search "dummy load" and build one if you don't want to buy. The easiest is a salt water dummy load.

what MDY stated needs to be done and since you changed the antenna I hope you verified your SWR is the same as your old antenna. SWR can be higher and the radio will cut back in power some.

I hooked up my Workman meter, and everything is good now. SWR is down to 1.5 Still think i might look into a dummy load
