My Amateur 500 has 4 6LR6 and 2 6JG6 they all need replaced stay with these or are there other compariable but just as reliable seen a few cross reference but wondering on performance

You could cross reference them but they won't be any cheaper, you are looking at just over $300 to re-tube that amp. I would stick with what's in it, cross referencing is for when the tubes are no longer available.

Too bad on those older amps the tubes cost so much. I know of a few people that take amps similar to that. Depending on plate voltage or if possible to do a doubler circuit and install a GI7b or 6b. Would have to do forced air cooling. But it can be done.

Thanks all dont really care about cost just performace tough to get reliable techs in this area several around but wanting to use different tube just afraid will compromise
