Post by millies pond » Saturday, 06 August 2016, 17:55 PM

i am looking for specs and info on what power supply will be adequate. any info will be seriously appreciated. what kind of output wattage does this amp have, and what power supply amp rating should have to run this amp?

Look up Digital Sports Systems on CB Tricks, you'll find some info and schematics there.

I see it doesn't state that. What transistors are in the amp and how many?

ok, i am not an electronics tech savvy guy. i was an electrician for 30 years and learned very little about electronic schematics. however, it appears there are a total of four, with one being in the supply power circuit. i was include a pic, but i dont see how too. if you got an email i send it too you. i cannot be sure about the brand or type of resistors. hopefully you can. thanks greg, for your help.

from my limited knowledge, i say three transistors in the amp circuit, idk might be four., but the one is in the power on circuit, the rest appear to be behind that functionally.

The transistors are the small white buttons with 4 solder tabs, that model should have one that is called the driver and 2 that are called the finals. There should be a model and number inked on the top of each. No a 10 amp power supply will not be big enough, rule of thumb, 10 amps per pill or transistor. Now some amps need more, some less.

I'm pretty sure there is only 3 RF transistors in that model so a 35A (or larger) would be about right. I don't run the amp and radio off he same PS. Get a quality model, you will want that for your new accruing ham equipment, I prefer Astron but there are other switching PS's less expensive, things to look at in a PS is continuous duty amperage and noise specs. If you use the "Search" (upper right corner of the page) for the forum you will see the pro's and con's of different supplies members are using or have used in the past.
You should be able to send a PM or email to me, just click the link under the avatar. Good luck on the tech exam, it's not as hard as everyone thinks, after they say you passed, take the General, you might be surprised and pass it the same day.

this is what i bought ...........MegaWatt® S-700-12 50 Amp Continuous 10.5 to 14 Volt Ham CB Radio or Linear Amp Power Supply Not a China Clone Real MegaWatt MW 13.8V 12V . what i saw in the amp as the buttons you described were two trw pt9805 7607 transistors? i'm real green right now. cannot find a third. if the ps i bought is a good one, i'll buy another. my radio is a galaxy base station, no mobile yet. i need to elevate my antenna and put the ground plane kit on it. my back keeps me from it right now. right now i am playing, experimenting, learning, so i am an unwritten book. thanks for the help greg. and the instructions on using this forum.

That is a good supply. The transistors are 60w models, very old so you will need to be gentle with the input wattage, having two makes the amp around 120w plus giving it's condition, looking at the schematic again there is only 2 transistors in that model. The ground plane kit for that antenna is another thing you could search for here, get the pro's and con's before spending the bucks.
