Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
I posted what I run in the mobile about a year and a half ago... but today I just came across what I used to run in the last car. CB was the famous Midland 79-290 (should have kept that one!) and the dual bander is a Yaesu FT8500.

Bump.
Got a '98 Blazer on Saturday. Planning to install my DX 959 in it soon. Might be sending the radio to Sparky for peak and tune + top gun mods. :D

Cobra LX LE 50 Year Anniversary Review
I had them install the large final (MOSFET 520) & peak and tune.
* Included with the Large Final Peak & Tune:
* Full transmit section realignment
* Full receive alignment
* Metering Alignment
* Squelch Alignment
* Antenna Warning Indicator (AWI) check and Alignment
The radio dead keyed @ 8 watts and transmitted 38 watts on the Bird Wattmeter.
I love the color display. Blue for day and Amber for the night. All this is in my 2011 Cascadia Freightliner.

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
I drive a big old 90 civic wagon, yes a civic wagon. LOL! I run a cobra 29 ltd classic with modulation kit, and talk back , deadkey 3 1/2 watt swind 25 watt. There's a little help with a palomar 400 running through a rm wilson 1000. The alt has been replaced with a 120 amp unit (stock 60amp) bonded all doors hood hatch exhaust and the engine. the main batt is replace with an optima 51r and the cb system runs off the aux optima 34/78 both batt are yellow tops. Funny when someone wants to put an eyeball on Delivery Man I guess they expect me to pull up in a truck or suv. I also have a 1984 dodge b250 van equipment in honda from van, the little beater out talked the big best. I'll try to post pics when I have a chance

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
No pics yet, but im running a 2510 through a wilson 5000 I have a palomar red devil 350 when things get rough. im really happy with the wilson it really does a good job. I have the ol' cig lighter cord with the rig laying upside down on the seat, I'd really like to mount it so I can change freq's easier when im driving. just something about a tweeker smashing my door glass and rippin' the thing out during the night keeps me from doing it up nice and right.

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
Im my ranger I have A Uniden PC78XL. P&T, beep and noise toy to a K-40+ on the headache bar. 1.1:1 SWR
I also have a kenwood TK-840 for GMRS to a Maxrad 5dB gain antenna. 1.0:1 SWR
Both are attached to the floor by a custom mounting plate I made from aluminum.
This is before I started modding the radio.
Heres how it looks now
I put the heliwhip on the other side just for the picture, It was removed promptly after seeing the unwanted effect it had on my SWR.

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
My set up changes from time to time , but right now I'm running a General Lee (done up by Sparkys) a Fatboy 1x4 and a 102 inch whip. I must say I tossed this 102" whip on my truck and never had an antenna tune as flat as this one, and it's been in my shop fpr the last 20 years LOL

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
I'm running a Galaxy DX 979 (Blue LED Model) with a Wilson 5K (MAG) wrapped in a Patriotic Blue 2005 PT Cruiser...Was working a Cobra 18WXST with a Wilson "Lil Wil" which worked fine but didn't have much room for expansion outside of changing out antenna's. Very pleased with the Galaxy/Wilson match , two strong elements that work well together!

That is a cool looking radio! I saw it the other day on one of the Sponsor's site and if I ever get another vehicle, I will get one of these, modded of course...speedkills wrote:Cobra LX LE 50 Year Anniversary Review

Currently still running the Galaxy 99V with a lil Wil in my Dodge. I'm thinking of upgrading to a different antenna soon so I can get better SWR across the bands rather than being stuck with it being "good enough" on one channel. I think I need more length, but who doesn't?!?
