Re: What do YOU run in the mobile
Currently I run a cobra 29lx off of a 102"
Whip on my truck. Added a grounding strap to the trunk
Due to poor factory grounding. I will be
Upgrading to the optima mk3 soon.
Currently I get an SWR from 1.1-1.4 sitting still
Engine off. And a 1.3-1.6 SWR while driving.
I do run a noise filter in my power supply which helps
Cut down the static. The resin for this is that I run
A power inverter for all
My stormchasing equipment.

I run a straight up galaxy dx98vhp doing around 200watts maybe a lil more and have talked very clearly with people, mobile to mobile at least 15miles away now. My antenna is a 102" whip antenna off the back side of my tool box in a 2007 Toyota Tundra single cab. I jump to lower am channels and talk further easily. The 102" whip is where it's at!

My other car (first one I posted a few years back, you can find in the first page). This one is a 2005 Crown Vic PI that I picked up in Feb. Radio is a modified Cobra 148F (modified by replacing the board with one from a damaged Grant XL, plus cosmetic mods).
Ignorance can be fixed. Stupid will present a special challenge!

I run a Magnum S9-175 and I will soon replace it with a S9-350 that I just purchased. My S9 has great TX and solid RX. I use a Siro 5000PL which out performed the Wison that it replaced.

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
Hi,
Currently running an ARF 2001 base off an inverter. Prior to that a CPI 2000 base/mobile. A no name footwarmer 1x 2sd1460 driving 4 2sc2879. Fire stick 3/4 mobile antenna 7ft.
If I can repair the CPI. Will put that in. Shortly will put in a Connex 3300 ZX or a Gallaxy 959 modded up.

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
I know this was from a few months ago but I like your setup! Many people don't realize Crown Vic Police Interceptors make an ideal mobile! I have an '09 and it has a nice radio console, 200 AMP Alternator plus every panel (including the exhaust has bonding straps) there is an 80 AMP connector in the trunk and a fan in the package shelf!
I haven't painted mine yet it's still a black and white with pushbar and dual spotlights. (sure does slow people down when I get on the freeway!)

Re: What do YOU run in the mobile?
I changed my set-up awhile back and now I run a Ranger 2950DX modded with 60watt finals, SRA198 Noise cancelling mike, a homebrew high drive 2pill with 2sc2652 finals b biased amplifier, 400max coax and a Sirio 5000 Trucker antenna. I also have a MFJ Grandmaster power meter and a Chinese digital Volt and Amp meter. That set-up does about 150 - 175 watts with the radio power all the way down. I rarely turn up the radio power off of minimum which gives it about 45 watts pep ssb. Get a full 60 at 1/2 way. AM wise the radio DK at minimum is 6watts swinging 40 and at half 14 DK swinging 55. Amp could handle more no problem but works fine and stays cool no matter how long I hold a key. Those readings are at idle and 12.4 volts. Does do a bit more going down the road at 14.2 volts. If I ever get my van cleaned out I'll add pics.....lol. The amp is kinda weird being a small 2 pill but has a separate power supply/inverter box to step up the power to 50 volts for the finals. I also have a 2 meter/70cm Kenwood TM-V71A and a Diamond SG7500A Dual band antenna with RG-213 coax. I did have a Ranger 2970N2 converted to 4 pill in the van but if it didn't get at least 13.3 volts constant it didn't sound good. I use it as a base now. During really cold spells I run either a Rat Shack 446 or a Uniden PC68 for my radio. Looking for a good old analog SSB'er for the winter months.
My car is pretty straight forward, an old orange faced Ranger 2950, a SRA-158 mike, a 2 fet Zombie copy amplifier, RG-213 coax, and an old Valor 4' fiberglass antenna on a workman triple mag with a 90 degree coax input. I use a Kenwood DH-72A HT for 2m/70cm in there with a small no-name dual band antenna I got at the Hamfest a few years back. The van gets out a whole lot better than the car. Might try putting the old K40 on there and see if it helps my Ranger do a little better. Eventually it'll get a Sirio as well.
