Got a F250LD, looking for install ideas

Post by LocomtvBreth » Friday, 13 November 2015, 12:48 PM

I was just gifted a 1998 F250 Light Duty. This is the F150 body on a 3/4 ton chassis. I have a Cobra 148 GTL and a 2 pill amp that I want to install. I was thinking about putting them both on the floor mounted vertically, or mounting the Radio over head. I need access to the bottom side of the radio due to added controls. any ideas would be appreciated.

This truck hs had a radio before, there is still an antenna mount and mic clip. I would like to replace the Motorola 3080384M48 Mobile Antenna Mount with the same type, but don't know if it is compatible with 11M. I would like to use the existing hole for a 102" whip at any rate.

OK, I think I know what I'm looking for. A 102" NMO hole mount antenna. Can I use off the shelf parts and combine a 102" whip with the UHF parts? If anyone has a line on the parts including antenna, base, and connector I'd appreciate it.

Here's a couple pics of my pickup, I used slide mounts so I can change out radios and accessories easily. Here is how I had it at first,

Image Image forgive the dirty vehicle, I was working them.

Here is now,

The low ampage radios are hooked to the slide mounts, the higher amperage stuff goes to the Anderson Powerpoles. The "L" brackets are from HD, the slide mounts I got at the hamfests.

I do not have any pictures of my setup but what I did was get a cbradio center hump mount with a speaker built in and mounted my radio on it and mounted the amp on top of the radio and ran my power wires out to the battery. this way I can just unplug my setup if needed and pull the hole thing out . it just sets on the center hump. it is a workman radio holder which if you watch you can buy it for 25.00 to 30.00 mailed to your home. the holder has a nice large speaker built in and has 2 cup holders built in the front of it . you do not have it bolted down at all and easy to pull out if you want to. mine is a 1999 f150 lariat and my other is a 2003 S10. the S10 I made a bracket for the antenna to mount behind the cab and the ford F150 the antenna is mounted at the back of the bed at the corner by the tali gate. just bolted a mirror mount bracket to the bed corner for the F150 ford.so far they do what I want.
