Install in a 2003 Ram 1500

#381308

Post by daytime dave »

I have an old Ram 1500, 2003. The cup holder folds out and down. No place to mount a radio under the dash. I use the cup holder too. I had wire under the center fold down that attached to the radio mounting bracket. It held it in place "ok". I just want something different. I have a new Cobra 29 lx and am looking for ideas.

Thanks.

I have an 04, I mounted mine on the floor hump using angle brackets from HD,

I later wanted to add another radio,(2m), so I made this mount,

This made it so I couldn't use the factory cup holder anymore so I bought this to go on the seat console,

My next plan is to remove the center seat and building a console for the radios and accessories, don't ever use that seat anyway.

Thank you. That first picture looks like a good idea I had not considered. I like the other cup holder too

I use those slide mounts because I change up radios and use Anderson PowerPoles for my power connections on the radios over a 10amp draw, the slide mounts have the low amp power (ie: CB radio, etc.) and the speaker connections so I don't have to mess with them. Grounds all go to the drivers side seat bolt right next to the hump.

I think I'm allowed to post photographs now, so I'll show what I came up with yesterday.

Sorry, all I can post now is a link. I have to figure out how to make my stuff much smaller.

Years ago I had an 03 Ram 1500 and made a mount that attached to the front seat bolt on the right side of the hump. It was similar to the RAM mounts police vehicles use to mount their radio gear. It put the radio to the right of the center controls and cup holders were still usable. I dont have pics unfortunately.

So far this mounting method is working well. I added a bungy to keep it from moving at all. It also allows use of the cup holder.
