Post by Aviator »

Who uses headphones with their setups? I'm looking for a dual earmuff type so if anyone has any recommendations....please let me know.

I run them often. I prefer the $25 Sony aviator type. They are light on my head and ears and work as well as any I've found.

I used to use headphones almost exclusively. That was because of where I was working/operating. I had I don't know how many different kinds, but usually wound up breaking them. So, I bought a 'Dave Clark' headset, I think it was for 'helicopters'. Not light weight, not cheap by any means, but they've lasted for over 15 - 20 years. Also had to re-build them because the original speakers and mic weren't compatible. They are not suitable for all occasions, but were definitely worth the cost to me.
I don't use them much now because of the type of connectors used for radios have changed, and I'm too lazy to change the connectors. I don't plan to throw them away though!

Why is that? Easier to hone in on a certain station?

Aviator,
Yes, that and the people around you (if any) don't have to listen too. Get's rid of distractions.

I use headphones all the time. I like converting mono sound into simulated stereo and I can hear stations a lot clearer especially if they are right with the noise. I also like putting some base on the receive and the headphones have a wide response. There is a local station here transmitting on the 40 channels and he sounds like a broadcast station when he keys up and talks. Of course he is running his transmit wide with his 756 PRO3 along with others all over the other bands.

I use the sony MDR-V150 headphones . You can get them for about 20 dollars and they have good quallity sound. I use them to monitor my audio to fine tune it.The talkback feacher on my rig squeals when the mic gain is up to high but with the headphones pluged in i can run it wide open if i need to. In my opinion headphones will greaten the enjoyment of your radio .

I picked up a set of PC headphones today with a mic on the side of them brand new, they were cheap and do what I want. However, anyone know how to convert them so sound comes out of both sides.

Aviator,
Sounds like you've got a pair of stereo head phones. If it has a three conductor plug, shorting the tip and ring connections should make both earphones on the same circuit so same sound out of both of them. The 'Rat Shack' did have stereo/mono adapters, no idea if they still do.
