Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
I ran a Kenwood TS140 off a converted computer supply without any RFI problems and if by chance there is any run the power wires through ferrite chokes and bypass them to ground with capacitors.

Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
The switching action that is used to generate the dc voltage can cause lots of radio frequency interference (rfi) if the power supply is poorly made.
Radio, still the most fun way to communicate!

Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
There was nothing special about my supplys, I think the ones Im using are from an old 1997 windows pc. Atleast the one for the small palomar? The one I use for the radio is from an old HP computer that I fried a while ago. All the locals around here agree that I seem to have the quietest recieve of anybody around this area on a regular basis. My needle wont move from the left hand corner unless someone talks. I guess don't knock it if you never tried it is what i'm saying, you might be suprised. I know I was, because I haven't thought of buying anything else for running my mobiles in over a decade.

Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
Well I do agree that building something to work is a great Idea absolutely but I was understanding that he was not sure of what to do .
Myself I have had good luck working on my cobra 29 mod and Ranger 3900 conversion and adjustments and all of that came with the willingness to try and learn which I understand he's doing ...Awesome.
I recently bought a 75$ switching p.s. and there is no noise interference at all with the reports I have received from reputable local cb enthusiast's and am very impressed with it and the amp output as well I am using it to run a 94HP
Now that's alot more money then the few parts to build one as he will do and now I am interested in this adventure picking up 1 free on craigslist.

Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
Whoa those power supplys on ebay are expensive, but also really cool. But for my little setup i do not feel its necessary to have that many amps. I was thinking of going over to radio shack today and buying the parts for the pc power supply. Calculated the cost last week for the parts and came to about 15 dollars with tax. And it will give me some entertainment on these long winter days.
Also, I found a 7 amp power supply on craigslist for $25. Called the guy up and left a message, never responded. The supply has also been on craigslist since the 9th of January.
Have a good one all.

Have that same PS.........run a General Lee or SS3900 and a Fatboy 2-pill with absolutely no power drop on key-up/modulation. Zero RFI as well.......my $0.02. Paid $60.00 for it!!! Oh yeah.....it's smaller than a radio too...LilRodbuster wrote:forgot to add this in case any one wanted to check it out

Re: CB Base setup and power supply help
I'll cast my vote for Astron power supplies, I have a model RS-35M that has been running flawlessly for almost twenty years. Astron recently introduced several updates to their models, new back-lit meters, smaller footprint. I may even transfer my older RS-35M to my workbench and purchase a new one they look so good.
