Re: Galaxy DX2547
Hello Bobc2,
I don't believe the transformer is dual voltage or it would state that on the radio, just don't have one here to look and see. It would be more involved than just flicking a switch, the proper power cord would be needed, (plug is different from 110v). If you are overseas a power adapter/converter would be easier.
I see your a new member, could you post an intro in the "Welcome to the Forum" topic, viewforum.php?f=89" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; , so others can say "Hi", thanks.

You'll have to rewire the primaries for 240V, above is a link with some info you might well find interesting.
You'll have to replace the power cord too for UK 240V mains.

Re: Galaxy DX2547
Good find RE,, the last one I worked on I couldn't remember if there were extra taps on the transformer for 240v but did know there was a EU/AUS version, that is what your link shows.

Re: Galaxy DX2547
No prob! You fuss with the taps for 240V mains AND install a NEW 240V cord...not an adaptor on a 117V cord.
Nice little rig!

Hi All
thank you for the quick reply's, this is what is on Amazon about the Galaxy DX2547, i was hoping i could just change the cable ?
Galaxy CB radios are designed with Features that a serious CB operator can appreciate and a new user can easily master. Each knob or button controls its own task, minimizing the need to look at a display or cycle through multiple menus. The DX-2547 CB base station is an excellent choice for both home and travel use. Its compact footprint and dual power options combine maximum flexibility with its unmatched performance. Galaxy DX-2547 Features: AM/SSB and PA Modes Operates on both 120 volts AC and 12 volts DC (Both power cords are included)Flip-Up Feet for Adjustable Viewing Angle Front Mic Jack (Handheld Microphone is included)Large, Easy-to-Read Meter with: Power Output Scale calibrated for AM and SSB Modulation Percentage Scale for use on AM Signal Strength Scale indicates up to 60 dB over S9 SWR Scale Six-digit Frequency Counter Automatic SWR Circuit (no complicated calibration procedure)High SWR Alert Circuit with Warning LED Talkback Circuit with On/Off Switch and Volume Control Variable Power Output Control Variable Dimmer Control with On/Off Switch Instant Access to Channels 9 and 19Roger Beep Circuit with On/Off Switch Separate Buttons for Noise Blanker and Automatic Noise Limiter Galaxy Noise Filter (GNF) Circuit for use on weak signals Switching Power Supply: Accepts 120V/60Hz or 240V/50Hz (socket adapter not included)Red Channel and Frequency LEDs Front Headphone Jack Rear Jacks for External Speaker and Public Address Use Clarifier Circuit with On/Off Switch Variable Tone Control for Receive Service Manual Two Year Limited Warranty Dimensions:11-1/8"W x 11-1/2"D x 4-1/4"H (Depth does not include knobs or antenna connector) (Height does not include flipped-down feet)Radio Weight (with microphone): 10.7 pounds Shipping Weight: 16.9 pounds What's in the box beside the radio: Handheld Microphone Mounting Hardware AC Power Cord and DC Power Cord Service Manual and Operator's Manual

Re: Galaxy DX2547
Some of the later models have a switchmode power supply fitted.
I don't "think" the switchmode is auto sensing so you WILL need to open the radio up & check the switchmode power supply for a 110/240 switch inside and slide it to the 240 volt position.
As others have suggested you MUST replace the mains power lead (Most US 110 Volt do NOT have an earth wire / pin fitted) At 240 volts an earthed case is a MUST.
Also you will need to check the mains input power filter board (If fitted) it WILL most likely have a 1 or 2 Megohm resistor fitted from Mains active to chassis ground - You MUST remove this resistor for safety.
If it is the version with a normal transformer fitted SOME transformers have dual windings for 110 / 240 volts and some Do NOT.
If you have the dual winding you will need to probe the 3 transformer mains wires with a multimeter until you find the pair of wires with the HIGHEST resistance to connect to 240 volts.
The resistance "should" be 22 Ohms - If it is not double/triple check your testing FIRST.
240 Volts WILL Kill You - Be very very careful doing any of this work !

Re: Galaxy DX2547
me i would prefer 12vdc, something about DC power that gives the radios soul,,,
maybe the electrons fall into line without being told or something...
