Good old Siltronix 1011D Comanche, nice radio, yes SSB is a lot better then AM, nice FD-1011 too, the readout in those get extremely hot so I wouldn't leave it on too long.I have a 1011C sitting here that I recapped but it needs a 8950 tube.

That's the problem with those old radios...tubes cost more than the radio!

I have a 1011D with weak mod output but strong carrier, what could be wrong? I tried two different mics but fear trying a power mic as if I remember they won’t work with them.

Do the 1011D's tend to drift?

Yes they are drifty, even more so than there counterpart radio the Swan, both were made by the same company, Swan was an HF rig. Siltronix came out with a matching frequency counter, the 1011F, so you could keep it close to the frequency you were talking on, BTW it worked well with the Swan radios too.
