mineral spirits works pretty good...acetone works too, but has a strong odor so you may want to use it outside.

Cleaning the cords is one of hose rainy day jobs when your sitting at the radio or like me, the computer watching the forum, I use Lysol wipes to get the nastiness off the cords, takes several times to get most of it off. Now the cord has become sticky, best thing I've found is Armor All wipes, same thing you would use on the interior of your car/truck. As for the stands, I'm an old fogy so Brasso metal polish cleans up the chrome pretty good and a good spray cleaner like 409 on the paint portions, hit them with the Armor All wipe after it dries.
