Antenna options

Post by BIGHOG » Sunday, 21 May 2017, 8:46 AM

So Ive finished the install on my 2006 Duramax crewcab dually. Stryker 447 with a fatboy 2x8 and a puckmount on top of the cab.

The problem is I used to switch back and force between my 10k and my 108 whip when all the gear was in my S-10. Now the 108 is waaaaaay to long to run and the 10k is an issue where I like because of tree limbs as well.

Can I take a wilson 5000 and screw it into my puck mount some kind of way? Or other antenna options that are more tree friendly? I absolutely love my 108, just cant do it.......

I'd still go with the 102" whip. Click on the pic to enlarge it.

I made this bracket and mount so I can run a whip or really any antenna with a 3/8 24 thread end, if your lazy you can use quick connects to change out the antennas.

Your truck is probably farther off the ground than mine, tip of my antenna is 13' 9 1/2".

If I'm stationary just making contacts the whip is fine. But puck mounted on top of a crew cab duramax puts the 108 at about 15.5". Just cant ride around like that.

Which id why I'm asking if I can take a base load antenna like a wilson 5000 and some how screw into my puck mount.

The Wilson uses a SO239, the antenna load has a PL259 molded in, you could flip a stud mount over so the SO239 is pointing up and screw the antenna down on it. The trick will be to ground the base of the Wilson antenna, that and waterproof it somehow.
