Tight receive on my Uniden Washington

#387430

Post by Badge19 »

The receive on my Washington seems to be unusually tight. Having trouble pulling in distant stations. I hooked up a different radio on the same base antenna(A99) and got twice the receive signal; same operator in same location for both transmissions. Is there an adjustment/repair that can be done to improve the receive..??

more than likely just needs the receive tuned. some one more than likely got inside with a screw driver and turned L cans that did not need to be turned trying to increase the TX

If no mods were done to the radio a quick blast of deoxit to the controls might wake up the receive especially the RF Gain control. If that doesn't help or like sonoma said, someone was inside the 2 main load cans to adjust (plastic tool only) are L3 and L4 (PC-385 board), adjust these to maximum sound on ch 19 AM. If after this it is still the same then it needs to go to a shop were they have the equipment to make a complete alignment.

If its the 858 chassis, change the tap on L4 to the high impedance unused leg and retune L4 and L5 .you will be amazed.Theres a youtube. Video by a swiss guy that goes over the mod.Highly recommended on 858 boards.

jon6667 said it.... (I'm an retired technician). It takes proper equipment and a fine tech to make it sing.

Yesterday I just aligned a Realistic TRC-490 (same board as the latter Washington radios *8719 chip*). The receive sucked...NOW AWESOME...TX was badly hacked and now AMC/ALC is back. TX is crystal clear and dead on frequency.

Hooked up to a Palomar TX-150 ...OWWZA!! Superb!
