Everhardt Scanner antenna?

#326177

Post by Eskimo_Pie »

I stumbled upon an Everhardt Tiger 2 foot fiberglass scanner antenna and was wondering how well they might work. I found them on a web store that I don't think is a sponsor here so I won't link to their page. Any thoughts?

Thanks & 73's

From what you've described, it sounds like someone started with a typical scanner antenna, coated it with fiberglass, gave it a 'catchy' name and want to make some money out of it. I have no idea how it might work. There's as good a chance that it would work okay as there is of it not. Buy one and then you can tell use!

Typically the Everhardt antennas were decent quality. I wouldn't hesitate in buying any of their antennas...especially for strictly receive like you are wanting. I've been running their antennas since they first came out in the 80's...great antennas. I'm not a scanner person but it's probably at least as good as anything else out there.

Hope that helps.

What scanner do you have Pete? I've got the following in the order I purchased:

bearcat 2500 XLT
Pro 90 Trunktracker
Uniden Trunktracker 245XLT
Uniden Trunktracker 780XLT
Pro 164 handheld
Grecom PSR 310

Out of all of them I have to say the grecom has been my favorite so far. That one and the 780. The grecom is a little harder to program for a novice user but after a few days of playing with it it's actually pretty easy to figure out. I have always been a uniden man but I really am impressed with the PSR 310. I wanted to get the PSR 500 digital the brother of the 310 but grecom shut down the manufacture plant in china and as I have heard are going out of business. Just wonder why you hate your scanner and the model number.

If you look close at the antenna you will see it is just a single wire that gradually spirals up the fiberglass rod, no load/coils whatsoever. You can use just about anything to receive signals, if you don't think so take a pencil and touch it to the center post of the antenna socket.
