NMO or SO239 mount

Post by MDYoungblood »

Which through the roof mount would you guys use for a dual band ham antenna? I don't mind drilling holes, I never cared for magnet mounts. The antenna will be in the 36" to 48" range.

i think the nmo is a tad weak compared to the So. but make sure to add a big(custom) washer to either on the inside for added backing.
i used a big puck , but then i am running a whip.

My plans are for 2 antennas on the roof, one dual band 2m/70cm and one to use for other bands but will probably be capped most of the time. I am kind of leaning toward the Sirio SO239 roof mount. I would like to find a SO239 that will let me use the LMR240 coax I already have. I've seen the **Non Sponsor** mount hefty for sure but pricey too.

I mounted my Larsen with the NMO mount through the roof of my Suzuki. I put another NMO mount on my Nissans Trunk lid. I only use the UHF mounts for my HF antennas. I don't think you can go wrong with the NMO for the dual band antenna application. The way they are designed you get double weather proof protection when using Larsen antennas. The NMO's are very sturdy for their intended purposes. There's not enough weight in dual band antennas to do any damage to the vehicle. I love the NMO mounting design. It must be pretty good almost all public safety and commercial vehicles use this design. To me it's a no brainer to go NMO but that's just my personal preference.
