Sirio Performer 5000 Fighter Limited Edition & PL145 Magnet

Post by DevilDog66 » Friday, 22 April 2016, 8:34 AM

I just bought a Sirio 5000 Fighter edition from Joe one of our sponsors, DNJ Radio to be exact. Joe is a great guy. I had initially ordered a Performer 5000 but he e-mailed me quickly that they were sold out of the Performer but would I instead like the camouflaged "Fighter" edition for the same price as the 5000. I immediately said YES! Two days later it was on my door step put together and on the top of my cars roof. Guys, if you ever thought about the Sirio 5000 don't hesitate, BUY IT. The antenna and Magnet are very well made with quality materials. The magnet is a little larger than 5 1/2 inches approx 5.58 not quite 6 inches, and comes with a protective rubber boot to protect your vehicles finish. I believe it has approx 17 feet of RG58 coax attached terminating with the standard PL259 connector. This antenna is a BEAST! Besides the way cool camo pattern on the base, its a tapered 17-7 stainless steel whip approx 6 1/2 feet in length another foot and a half and its a 102" whip!!!! The metallic parts are chromed brass which should last for years of use exposed to the elements, especially the weather we get in SE Louisiana! The antenna is hooked up to my Uniden HH401 a handheld model until I get my 980 SSB back from the shop(thats another story). I have been getitting good results and reports of "your gettin out there" and "nice and clear 5x9's." The distances have been up to 8 miles away! Un-believable considering this is in a city/suburban environment on a hand held CB! I can't imagine what it'll do when I get the 980 back and talking on LSB! So far the Sirio has lived up to all the hype I've heard about them, as I've said its a very well built antenna unlike the cheap looking plastic thats on certain other antenna manufacturers not to mention the questionable quality control. One of the coolest things about this antenna is that you can fold it in a matter of seconds for garages, drive thrus etc...by way of a small lever at the base of the coil. The antenna is able to be tuned by two small allen screws once you expose them by pushing up on the small cone shaped rubber boot and either lengthening or shortening the whip, or by snipping some off 1/4" at a time or less to fine tune those SWR's. DNJ Radio has phenomenal customer service and great communication, so if your looking at the Sirio brand of antenna DNJ is the place to get it from, besides helping out our sponsors who make this site possible, DNJ Radio has very reasonable prices on all of their Sirio antennas mobile or base they may be a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for, and as I've stated before, the customer service at DNJ is awesome keep it up Joe!

Are you planning to do the rest of the vehicle to match the antenna or is it already.

It's already a dark olive looking green, I think Honda calls it hematite mettalic. Having been a Marine, I think it would be cool camouflaged like the antenna, but I think the wife would not. :puke_l: I should be getting my radio back Saturday night when I get to work. I had my tech look at it and he said it was the AM regulator went bad. He is also replacing the final with a better quality one than what Uniden used and the IC's plus turning down the PA final bias under 4 volts.

Glad to hear it works good. Everybody says they are a great antenna. I saw they now have a performer 5000 w/ green led's in it . More watts the brighter it get's is what they say. I wonder how long the led's will last with high wattage. Thinking about getting myself one for my work truck. D-minus

My biggest gripe about the newer Wilson antennas is the QC. I have 2 brand new ones that won't tune below 1.7:1. Replaced the antenna with an old Wilson 5000 coil and whip and vswr was 1.0:1 at 27.400, as well as R=50, X=0 as measured with an MFJ269. Couldn't get the 2 new ones to get even close to these readings. Also threw my uncut whip Sirio 5k on the roof of the van and it was a bit long at 27.400, but readings were way better than the new Wilsons that had been messed with LOL. I have heard that the QC has gotten better at Bargan, but the Sirio performer sold me once I used one. Great mobile antenna.
