Cobra 75 wx st dead key adjustment?

#380765

Post by war wagon »

I just bought a Cobra 75 wx st Cb radio and out of the box it only puts out a 3 watt dead key and swings to about 4-5 watts with normal talking. I have adjusted the modulation pot and it is much better now it swings to 7-8 watts now. But I would like to adjust the dead key to 4 watts. Does anyone know how I can adjust the dead key on this radio? I am sure there has to be a way. Thanks! War Wagon.

You may not want the wattage up too high, that hand unit doesn't (or much of one) have a heatsink on the final, cooling was an issue if I remember.

This radio does have a heat sink for the final but it is not that big and it does heat up quick so you can't do any 5 minute keydowns or it might burn up. I got it up to a 3.5 watt dead key and swings to 7-8 watts. That will be fine for this radio as I don't expect or need to get anymone than that out of it. War Wagon

With that carrier to swing ratio, doesn't it sound flat and undermodated? Why not do a 2:8 watt deadkey to peak setup and let it sound full? That would equate to a nice textbook 1:4. I could see wanting the 4 watt carrier if you like to deadkey or have a spaced out talk track but if you talk at normal speed then why?

When I was adjusting the Cobra 75 it sounded nice and clear with loud audio on the Cb radio I had on across the room when I was done with it. It was way better than it was out of the box I hope that all the Cobra 75s are not adjusted like mine was. I am really pleased with the way it sounded when I was done I did not think it sounded flat or undermodulated. War Wagon.
