Re: Royce 1-621 base
the 621's work best as is. dont mess with it, it cannot really be pumped. allthou, i think i know what audio gain your talking about. i had 2 or 3 of them and they seemed to be factory peaked and you just cant get any more out of them unless you(at least) change a chip.

Ok Sonoma thanks for the info . I understand 443 I don't plan to do alot of talking with it but I would like to see a little more audio. 40% modulation is very poor

I have one of these little radios also. there was a sams on that auction site so I just bought it for future needs myself. the one I have works very well also. for some reason this book is hard to find. the royce must be the only one people buy the book for.looks like I will have this one next week now.

Re: Royce 1-621 base
I'm guessing you mean the modulation is low, when you said audio makes us think the receive is in need of repair. That radio was designed back when the FCC was really strict on specifications, best your going to get is turning VR3 all the way up (clockwise), if you turn the power down to 3 to 3 1/2 watts it will show a little more swing when talking.

Re: Royce 1-621 base
just tellin ya, if you move the L4 it can move completely off the grid and you'll spend at least a few hours cussin yourself.
this radio was designed well and its components were matched to the build.
your modulation can be improved by putting your lip on the mic when talking and peak the VR3
another notable,,,,the squelch circuit is one of the best performing, as you may have already realized.
switching mics is not easy either, take the stock mic apart and clean it, probably 40 yrs of spit and boogers plugging it up.

Re: Royce 1-621 base
my old personal radios I rewire them for the 4 pin galaxy/cobra mics. this way I do not have to have different mics for each radio.at least this works for me.
the only different mics are 4 pin and 5 pin and the 5 pin realistic mics.
