Johnson Messenger 223 Capacitors

Hi!

I managed to save a Johnson Messenger 223 today. My neighbor was about to load it onto his utility trailer load of stuff destine for the dump. I checked it out. The unit appears to be working fine. I want to clean it up and replace the capacitors for it is all original. I heard that there are six in particular I should attend to first. Anyone know what their values are? Also, which resistors that are of primary concern for failing.

All the electrolytic caps should be changed. I'm on my first experience with tubes myself so we can learn together. Any resistors that looked cracked, burnt or falling apart as well.

Normally not all the caps need replacing, disc caps rarely go bad as with most resistors. First ones to look at and replace are the cardboard electrolytic, they will certainly go bad soon. The resistors to look closely at are the ceramic sand cased ones but look at them all for signs of overheating. Hopefully the values are still written on them if not you will need a schematic and parts list.

Here's the Electrolytic Cap's that are in your 223.
C1, 80Uf 450V for sure.
C2A, 15Uf 300V
C2B, 10Uf 150V
C2C, 10Uf 25V
C3A, 4Uf 350V
C3B, 8Uf 150V
C4, 6.8Uf 15V
C121 1000Uf 16V
And Just in case, V10 Tube. 12BW4
