Re: What are the best anti-virus programs?
I used to use free AVG and avoided downloads. Probably the safest way to surf is with virtualization software such as VWware,Xen, Paralells or the new Microsoft Virtual PC. I run Ubuntu Linux. Like the MAC guys, I just don'thave to worry about viruses that much.

I've used a lot of different AVPs and the best I have found that works and doesn't take up gobs of your processors cycles is Vipre fron Sunbelt. It has a small footprint, is priced right and works. It also has several useful tools built in it. They make a firewall system too. It is better to get them as a package.
The scum that make the viruses are getting smarter and more invasive. I've not had 1 problem since I loaded Vipre. They have a 30 day free trial.
No I don't work for them.

Re: What are the best anti-virus programs?
Thought I'd kick in a list I use since I have used these I have kept free and clear and if not clear it would pop up and tell me.
AVG 2011
SUPERAntiSpyware
PC firewall
Malwarebytes
And of course I use my watch dog Scotty Dog AKA winpatrol
then i clean the reg. and cookies with Ccleaner
You can even get more protection with the paid versions. That should help you all out this is a great combination that works.

I've been running almost 3 years without anti-virus. Still running strong.
