Don't feel too bad RE, a local had a Cherokee CBS-1000 which is the same radio, sounded really good using a power mic (TUG9-D104) but the receive wasn't the greatest when it came to adjacent channel rejection. Living in WY may not have a problem with that but around here it wasn't good. Good luck with it and maybe a schottky diode mod might help.

If Radio Shack would have produced or contracted an export radio these would have been the radio. Very nice and good looking radios but other than the channel mods not much else you can do with it. Much like many of the RS line it will perform much like that only it will feature the channels that RS wouldn't let you have. They are nice radio's and if kept proper will last a very long time. Big talkers they are not but for sitting talking local they are a fine radio. If your granddad was gonna sit and talk on a radio this is the type of radio he'd own, unless of course he's like many of us on here and wants to key down so the neighboring state can hear him.
