Moxon beam

I've been reading about Moxon Antennas and saw that HomerBB made one with a walker. Saw that mfj makes one, and it performed really well on a YouTube video where one dude from Ottawa was talking skip on 3 watts. Got me interested. I'm ordering some 3/4" aluminum tubes and some supplies to make my own Moxon using HomerBB's schematics. It looks simple enough and a good way to pass the time. :r&r:

Decent forward gain and a great F/B ratio for a couple spreaders and 2 pcs. of wire. I've made a couple for temporary field day usage.

Sweet...a dual polarity. I've made one of those and it worked terrific.

I used copper tubing on mine vs. aluminum. I simply soldered 90* elbows and kept me from having to bend the aluminum. I have tubing benders but all the stuff I used on mine were bought at my local Home Depot & Ace Hardware stores. Awesome F/B & F/S ratio at any height. I will tell you that the vertical calculator is off some on the moxon antenna project calculation tool...but the Moxon is one of the best small beams I've ever had the pleasure of using. Even wire elements (which I've made several of for different bands) work very well...but not as well as tubing.

Love the Moxon.
After 2 years of faultless performance in the air I just brought it down to use its mast for testing another antenna.
A friend obtained a 1970's Cushcraft CR-1 Ringo antenna and wanted me to try to get it to tune up. I did, and it does. I had to make another stub for it, but it works quite well.
Back to the Moxon.
I agree that the tubing Moxon out performs the wire versions i built. Its an easy to build small beam that never dissappoints,

Weather has not been cooperating and I have not found the time to start on the antenna yet. The days are getting longer, and hopefully warmer soon. It's been in the - degrees below zero for awhile. the plan to construct the Moxon is still going to happen.

Had trouble finding scraps for the build. So ordered a Mfj 1890, it came today. When weather permits I will set it up.

Yes the vertical dimensions are shorter because the antenna is seeing the metal mast and the coax from both.

Now the dimensions are slightly longer for 11m.

Thanks MD, I saw a fella on YouTube set one up for 11m. His measurements were hard to read. I think he was 3/4 inch more at each corner

You could try this calculator, the tubing average is around 13mm (1/2") so put that in the "Wire Dia." then just add the center frequency you want to use.

Man, i haven't got around to installing the moxon yet. It's just sitting in storage as a future project. It'll get up b4 next solar maximum. Lol
