With a 3 element beam you talk and hear best in the direction it is pointing. Vertical polarity is best for base to base or base to mobile, is the horizontal polarity it is best for talking skip or another base with the same polarity.

You will still be able to hear signals around you but they won't be strong, best signal is where the antenna is pointed. If you need a manual for the antenna here it is; http://macoantennas.net/files/M103C_2011.pdf

Re: looking for help with maco 3
It will work (20' pole) but when they are talking about being up in the air 30+', they are talking about where the base of the antenna is at...not the tip... So, a 20' pole will work "OK", but higher the better.wildcat374 wrote: ↑August 13th, 2017, 12:34 pm ok thanks... i guess i will get a another A99 my 20 year old A99 broke to pieces when i took it down and not put the beams up if you have to turn them and also they have to be in 36 foot up to be in the wave lenghth..... i have a 20 foot pole for the A99 that 38 feet from the ground to the top of the A99 will that work...
The whole antenna radiates signal, not just the tip.

Re: looking for help with maco 3
Never had either...(have a MaCo shooting star beam) but your comparing a $50 antenna to a $150 antenna...I'm leaning towards the Penetrator being the best of the two, if for no other reason, it's made out of aluminum which will out last fiberglass, plus it comes with ground radials...Just cost 3 times as much...wildcat374 wrote: ↑August 13th, 2017, 9:55 pm ok from what i read the super penetrator is a real good antenna the a99 is not bad which one you think is the best . thanks for your all help...

Re: looking for help with maco 3
I would go with the HyGain Super Penetrator 500 over the A99 any day of the week. They are a little more complicated to assemble but once the together right they are an awesome antenna.
