End Base Antenna Bans!!!

#387923

Post by KN6SD »

Please show your support by signing my https://www.change.org/p/home ... reedom-act petition, it's called the "Homeowners Wireless Freedom Act of 2018", and it would end outdoor antenna bans in residential properties..

Let's try to put an end to unreasonable restrictions that have an adverse effect on a persons ability to communicate...

Thank you,
Russ Brill

Hello KN6SD,
Welcome to the forum. I fixed the link you posted, no need to obscure a link that isn't related to a sale of radio equipment. I know the ARRL had a bill last year but like usual nothing was done so it expired and the same thing is happening to this years bill.

Ain't gonna happen... HOA's have as much pull as the NRA when it comes to home owners...Most neighborhoods that have HOA's would not want radio towers with large beam antenna's in their neighborhoods as they see them as "eye-sores"...

Want a radio antenna? Best move out of the city somewhere in the country or rural area where there are no restrictions.

Well, I have the HOA issue at my home-20 and so far I am getting away with a Patriot 12.
I'm thinking of putting up an I-Com 2000 in the Spring on a pole and tripod in the front yard.
Mount a flag on it, below the antenna, and put a light on it so I don't
have to take it down, and then I'll be set.

Tune the I-Com for 10 m and make the best of the Di-poles and Patriot as needed.

If you can get away with it "Go for it!"...I know allot of the HOA's around here won't even let you have a flag pole. I think they will let you fly the American flag on National Holidays as long as it on a bracket mounted on the house so you can take it down after the holiday is over, but nothing permanent.

Right now I have a flag mounted in a bracket on the light post in the front yard.
It is up most all the time and I have a solar powered light focused on it
for night time. I only take it down in strong wind for concern for the light post.

This tripod I am considering doing is the same one I used at the Poconos in
November.

There's ways around those HOA's, if you have big enough tree's in your back yard.

Hi 443,

It will take a lot more than Amateur Radio training to figure out what the "Left" is saying

This is why I won't live in an HOA neighborhood. If I want to paint my house purple with hot pink shutters I will and if I want a cb anyenna on my property I will. I don't do well with authority, just ask my manager.

The one thing I never found an answer to.....

A while back I read the actual language of the bill being presented and it specifically mentioned Part 97 which is the Amatuer Radio Service. It did NOT mention Part 95 which covers CB Radio Service. Granted... the bills died but, if they HAD passed, does anyone think it would have done any good for CB? I would think that the HOAs would be "stinky" about it and only allow amateur radio antennas.... since technically, that was all that was covered under the bill. Any comments or thoughts?

Let's face it , none of these "Bill's" if passed are going to allow the individual to install a Monster Quad or a Log-Periodic Beam, it is going to let you install a modest vertical so to me that would include a CB antenna, a HOA isn't going to know if your a licensed ham or a CB'er and I wouldn't acknowledge to them either. Hope you have luck with this petition but it really needed to be started at the beginning of the new session in Washington.

Yeah, HOA's wouldn't know a HAM antenna from a CB, or TV antenna... But as long as the HOA's can't see it, you can get away with it. Just have to be good at camouflage.

As one poster said. Plant a lot of trees and use stealth antennas. Mine have been up for 25 years. The Imax 2000 painted green sticking out of the tree and the low band antennas are hidden in the trees. You can even put an antenna out on the front lawn right under their noses. The old flag pole antenna. When there's a will, there is a way. We been trying for years to get HOA's antenna restrictions lifted but in the mean time, you gotta do what you know how to do best. Attics are good for VHF/UHF antennas that reach repeaters too. Keep the high bands in the attic and utilize the CB and HF antennas in the stealth mode outside.

I went to the site to sign but found this:
"After speaking with an ARRL representative, I believe the Amateur Radio Parity Act will provide the necessary relief from HOA's and CC&R's."

Is there an update to this or is this petition closed?
I live in a HOA and had to hide an A-99 in the attic.
Thanks
