ssb wattage advertisement gimmick??

ssb wattage advertisement gimmick??

so is the out put of ssb a advertisement gimmick or what every time i check ssb on any meter amps radios etc. ssb shows less than just am.so i did a test with three different meters two different radios. tryed both radios on all 3 meters radio #1 showed on am 23 watts pep and with a amp on in am mode 220 watts pep on all 3 meters ok on ssb radio #1 showed 16 watts pep and with the amp 200 watts pep on all 3 meters. and radio #2 showed 44 watts pep in am mode and with a amp (same amp) it showed 235 watts pep and in ssb the radio showed 35 watts pep and with the amp 210 pep on all 3 meters im just wondering if some one can shed some light on this subject

My experience is that a properly tuned radio will "usually" put out
at least as much on ssb as on am. In fact, I often see a few watts
more on ssb than on am out of the newer 148's etc.

well i used a astatic 700 and a dosy tc 4002psw and workman ? all in line to gather and the amp was Texas star 250 on 13.6v and the radios where a galaxy dx99v and a dx959 ..................ok preacher i will pm you!!!

Do you know if any of those meters are true PEP watt meters?? The way you tell is if the meter needs an outside power supply for the PEP feature to work? Usually a 9 volt battery or an AC wall wort. If the PEP will work with out outside power then there not true PEP meters. That could be your problem. True PEP meters cost about 150 and more for a 10%± meter/ If your meters cost less than this or don't use external power your not getting a true PEP meter.
