seting up a base and mobile

greetings all. i just won a old realistic trc-55 23 channel base station. i like to buy older cb,s and restore them. the trc-55 is somewhat odd for some, but i like how the older models had features not often seen today on most stations. like clocks and etc. i was excited and glad to had won it. i will have it checked out and tuned fixed or whatever it needs soon.

i also have a new galaxy 919 mobile cb. i realy like the talkback, power, and rf gain features. sofar its been a good cb. though it needs a tuneup lol. i used to have a washington base station well tuned and with extra's included. plus a d-104 eagle micrphone. on the trc-55, what if any mods or so woulkd you all recomened besides the tuneup?

perhaps a noisetoy or maybe to see if any extra channels could added?

though i realy love galaxy and ranger, connex radio,s im always a old cb loving base station kind of guy lol. :farao:

and cobra was always a good cb as well. the 148 gtl could be modified well and peaked .i live georgia so finding a close tech and realiable one has been hard to find. though i saw where a few was recomended. but the closest 1 was atleast a hour or so away . i thank you all and please ask me any questions on the old trc-55 or on the galaxy 919. :dwarf:

well finaly recieved my trc-55 base today. transmits well and recieves, but the swr meter doesn,t work and the volume has a lil problem. nothing bad, just have to be alil careful with it . nice looking radio and huge lol. hopefuly can get it fixed and serviced soon. won,t use until it gets oked and tuned up. in all i think i did well with the choice as far as having a classic older model . i use my galaxy dx 919 alot for a base until i get the other fixed.

gona set a a99 up soon and make sure its grounded and high enough to to get out father lol. i like my dx 919 radio. poor thing needs a tuneup and better antenna :dwarf:

does anyone have a trc 55 realistic base station? if so, is it worth the time to fixup or use? i heard some good reports from people who had old realistic radio,s . but each had a different model and was well kept up . anyways thank you for your time and any advice or so is greatly appreciated always. :chef:

hmm ok i noticed where this old base was peaked and tuned from the previous owner. has his name and call sign on the back from his old license. radio keys up 5w and swings around 20 almost not bad for a oldy lol. and the modulation screams lol. also the rf and squelch buttons has been worked on as well or opened up, cause they go beyond the norm level for max.

just need to make sure its still working ok and get the lamp bulbs replaced and swr meter replaced. maybe i did pretty good afterall. let me ask. i know the directional beams work well ,but like for the postion or direction they are set for. does it also increase range on transmit? thaanks and blessings all. :chef:

Don't know anyone who runs one of those. But most of the old Radio Shack radios talked very well. Doubtful you'd ever catch me running a 23 channel radio...just not enough frequencies for my liking.

Glad you are having fun and congrats' on the winning the radio.

Directional antennas, beams, refocus power in a particular direction. And yes, they typically do increase range for both receiving and transmitting.

well i have a problem. the base just quit working. its no longer picking up or transmiting. looks like maybe a final or something went out. it turns on ,but no reception or transmit. oh well take a chance on a old base and sometimes life hands you a lemon lol. not sure if its worth the effort to get fixed . only cost around 30$ for it and may cost more to fix.

good thing i have my trusty galaxy radio for backup. its new and should do good for now. gona still look for a newer base station and antenna next week. i feel if i can get my antenna up high enough, it will transmit and recieve much better. does anyone have a ssb mobile or base they may want to sell for a reasonable price? thanks all and take care for now.

my email is shakunahealer@yahoo.com if anyone has a base or mobile. :chef:

 lol well i took a chance and hooked up the realistic and wow it worked again. was transmiting and recieving well. strange how it started to work again. maybe it was lose on the connection last time or mic was,nt in all the way. but glad to see it running atleast for now. so will have all 3 radio's out side by side to run at times.

nice to know incase 1 fails , the others can take over for awhile lol. oh well go figure. that's been my luck sofar this year.

I agree its always a good thing to have a couple other radios laying around. Never know when you want to change things around.
