Receive dropping out...
Lately the receive on my Superstar 120 has been dropping out; will go from 1 lb. of normal noise to nothing, then jump back up to 1 lb. again. Or I'll be talking to another local base station, and a 9 lb. signal will drop to one, with a corresponding drop in modulation, then jump back to 9 lbs. again.
I've checked all my coax and jumpers to no effect.I even tried taking my freq. counter out of line to see if that was the problem...no dice.
Any thoughts?

Hi Ballixxe
I would check for a cold solder connection in the receiver. Try gently pressing on the board while listening to the radio. If it changes while you are pressing on the board then the problem is a physical connection. A failing component will not be affected by pressing on the board.
Did you, by any chance, have the radio sitting at one spot for a while, and then moved it for any reason? Base stations are funny like that, they will work fine sitting for ten years and as soon as you move it to clean dust or make changes they start to act up. Unlike mobile units that are exposed to temperature changes and bumps, base stations become very "happy" sitting in the same place undisturbed with the same temperature and humidity. If you did move it recently check for a cold solder connection. IC-1 which is in the center of the board controls squelch and the automatic gain control of the first RF transistor. If the voltage levels are not right on this chip the radio will not control the incoming signal's strength.
Respectfully,
