I lived in Michigan for 14 yrs and it stormed there a lot. So I would put the end of my coax in a jar. The one time I didn't put it in a jar I came home to a scorched melted hole in my carpet. In the fall of 76 we had a sleet storm with occasional lightening. The month before I had put up a CLR2 antennae. Since I didn't have any help at the time I put it up myself if you can call it that. I put it on 10ft of mast pipe and wired it to my chain link fence. Needless to say the lightening struck the ice covered fence at the neighbor behind me and ran down the fence and into my antennae into my coax and into a jar. It made a horrible noise and a big flash and then the lights went out but it didn't break the jar. It burnt up the load in the CLR2 but that's ok the next antennae I bought was a Penetrator. Where there is a will there is away. That's my experience with lightening and coax and 5 days without power.

TOUGH TIMES NEVER LAST TOUGH PEOPLE DO
no problem CACTUSFLOWER,
well its monday, the weekend is over and what a weekend it was, i finally hit a few dirt track races, and had a great time, and i also was told that ill be getting a old but new set of beams, not the normal type either, its called a super scanner antenna, it has three vertical elaments set in a triangle on the mast instead of four elaments layed flat across the mast, plus im getting another used a99, ill use that for a backup antenna to my new on, i hope all is well for everyone, Have Fun!, Be Safe!!, Happy DX'ing!!!...Dj
