Hi pitbull3825
Is the Cobra a 135 or a 135 XL? The 135 is Sams Photofacts CB-54 and the 135XL is CB-181. I doubt you meant the 135. That is a Sideband 23 channel base that was called the 135. The mobile version is the 132. The only difference is the external look. It uses a crystal matrix and is a dual conversion receiver. The first IF is 7.8 for SSB and 455KHx for AM.
The Cobra 135XL is a Sideband 40 channel base with an analog clock. It uses a audio chip found in many Cybernet chassis, the Toshiba TA-7205. It was produced for the USA between 1977 and 1978. The PLL section is made of individual ICs to make up the total PLL circuitry.
It looks like the radio is single conversion receiver. The IF is 7.8 MHz. I see it has a built in SWR meter. The switch in question is marked S-502. It is an alarm ON-OFF switch for the clock. That is what the Cobra 2000 GTL has. I would say you set the clock and alarm and put the Auto on ON and the radio comes on when you set it to do so.
It bypasses S-501 the ON-OFF switch. S-502 is tied to the clock. I would bet that is what it is for.

Hi pitbull3825
I will have to look that model number up. Does the 135 XLR radio have a clock?
