On ssb there is no carrier so you will not have a dk. By turning up the alc the power output will increase on ssb. Turning up the alc up from 45% to 85% will not cause someone not being able to understand you neither will turning it down to 50% cause you to sound muffled.ck_dx814 wrote: i turned up am power and amc the am sound amazing loud and clear enough to convice you i was in the cab hehe 7w deadkey swining to 11w but the ssb had a o watt deadkey and swung up to 7w so i turned up the alc to about 85% same as amc and same deadkey but swung to 11w i took it out and no one could understand me i turned it back to about 50% and another person said i was real muffled stock setting is like 40-45% any ideas what it could be i also have pots for the driver and final bias dont know if i should adjust
Tell the person on the receiving end to learn how to use their clarifier and do not touch the bias pots unless you know how to adjust them.

could the ssb tx just need aligned?
After messing with it, and not knowing how to mess with it, yes, it could certainly benefit from being re-aligned. At least having the 'ALC' reset to factory spec. Wouldn't you thing?

i reset the alc and they said i was nice and clear how can i get more watts out of it any one know of a swing mod or component swap realistic trc 465
I assure you, good audio is WAY more important than "big watts" on sideband! A few extra watts will make absolutely zero difference, where having good audio can.ck_dx814 wrote:i reset the alc and they said i was nice and clear how can i get more watts out of it any one know of a swing mod or component swap realistic trc 465
I'd suggest you leave the radio alone and get yourself an amp.

i would but i haven't seen any i like for a mobile and my base is out of commission
Not sure what that means really, but I assure you there are tons to pick from that would do a terrific job at very little cost without trashing your audio.ck_dx814 wrote:i would but i haven't seen any i like for a mobile and my base is out of commission
Maybe you can start a new thread on what you do like? There are tons of very knowledgeable folks on the forum who are very amp savvy. Just a thought anyway.
Best of luck.

Well then.....If you cant get an amp....
I guess you should take his advice. Stop poking aroung with your "golden screwdriver" and leave well enough ALONE!!!!!!
Do yourself and other CBers a favor.....take it to a pro. There is nothing worse than having to listen to a poked at hacked on CB.
You may think " Oh it just a couple of pots and slugs....anyone can do this". That is until you mess with the wrong pot and get it so far out of whack that a "REAL" technician cant figure it out.
Then what d ya have.....AN EXPENSIVE PILE O' PARTS!!!!
QUALITY NOT QUANTITY!!!! I'm gone.
