base interference help

hi everyone we have a base setup at my buddys house when we just run the radio it barely bleeds over the house tv, but when we put anything behind it it cuts out the tv and some of the neighbors across the street say we bleed over there computer speakers and what not. is there anything i can do to help stop "bleeding" over there stuff and get them off our backs. thanks for the advice in advanced

what radio? what amp? what antenna? how high is the antenna? what kinda coax?

Yes, there are things YOU can do to start with, but it's likely going to take several things to eventually solve the problem. These aren't really in any particular order;

1.) Keep your mic and mic gain turned down to no more than 100% modulation.
2.) Pull the amp out of line until a time you don't bleed on your own stuff.
3.) Get your antenna higher if it's not already (the higher the better, safely)
4.) Sometimes a low pass filter installed between your radio and antenna helps
5.) Pick up some snap on ferrite beads and give them to your neighbor for the speakers. Show them how to install them and inform them that computer speakers are notorious for picking up unwanted transmissions if the signals are strong enough.
6.) Read all you can on RFI solutions on the web and learn what causes it in the first place.
7.) keep your transmit power on the radio (if you have adjustable power) low until a time you do not get into your own TV and other devices.
8.) Install TVI filter, better known as a high pass filter on the TV input cable.
9.) Install an coaxial RF choke at your antenna feed point.

There are plenty more, but those are a few of the basics. I personally like to make sure most all of these things are done. But you can bet if you are getting into your own electronics, you are likely getting into your neighbors, too.

as for the setup its a galaxy cb gray 300 amp and a old base antenna that i got from my uncle not sure of the exact brand or type. the height of it is on a 2-story house mounted on the chimey

if you put a low pass filter in line, i would put it after the radio.. the amp is only amplifying dirty harmonics from the radio.

First of all Audio Boy you are hardly in a position to give anyone a bad time here. So that you know, he started this thread probably exactly the same time you started yours (if not before). I answered him first because I saw his post first. I linked to it on my first reply to you...but as usual, you selectively ignored it. Has anyone given you a bad time for starting a Galaxy thread? Nope. There have been tons and tons of them posted over the years. Please, the world doesn't wrap around you, and his needs are likely to be different than yours. no the thing is we are personal friends and weve gon over all of this i wasnt trying to be rude. this post is about my set up in my own house, so i was just telling him in his post that there are 2 huge other posts about my set up
