Just Picked This Up

Post by dragline »

So I told a friend of mine I was thinking about setting up a base station at my house. He told me he had a radio he once used. I went and got it and know nothing about it. Dont know much about base radios period. Its a Realistic Navajo. If that helps any. Also its got a Realistic mic. Any info on this would help me a great deal.

Thanks,
Drag

Well if it works then you just scored yourself a classic radio. I have one of them myself and are reputed to be great AM & SSB radios. I'd give it a good cleaning and check it all out. After so many years it might need a realignment but you'll have to see. I see you have the matching desk mic too.

There's some decent posts that talk about your radio here:

Great find! I'm leaning more and more toward those old Navajo's after hearing yet another on the air the other day...SSB no less! He was running that same set up (including mic) and it sounded great.

Congrats' and let us know how it all works out for ya'.

I was never a fan of anything to come out of Radio Shack -- But in the last couple of years that has changed -- especially since ive seen and heard so many of those old base radios--- they are all actuall great radios--and you scored one of the better ones--- I have seen many posts here about the 457, 458 radios and wished i had one ! some day i hope to get a good deal on one

It looks like a 457 to me. If that's the case then you have a classic and if restored will give you lots of enjoyment.

thats a trc-457, good radio. uses the 858 pll chip, easy to modify for extra channels, probably right up there as being one of rat shacks better radios, a keeper, worth fixing if it dosent work right.

i agree there are so many of those old navahos out there, all diffrent modles, and the one you got is one of the better ones in my eyes, i think almost every operator out there at one time had a radioshack navaho, haha, and the one u got is better because you can load it up with upgrades if u want, well welcome to the world of radio, and welcome to your new addiction haha, ny221
