TRC-458 S meter stuck & receive problems...

I just acquired a not so well taken care of TRC-458. The meter works fine on TX but on receive it doesn't budge. On receive it seems to work fine on LSB and USB on AM however it only seems to receive strong signals. I gave a shout out for a radio check on 19 twice today and I got a reply both times but I think they were close stations. One I know was from less than a mile away.

Does anyone have any ideas I could try off the top of their head? Anyone had similar issues?
