If you have a Realistic Navaho TRC 431 radio you should check to see if the radio is fused inside. I had two of these radios and they never had any fuses built in. There was two homes in this area where I live that burned down because of the fault of that specific radio.... I am not sure if there are other radios with the same problem... Another guy here in town lost his garage and nearly lost his home because of the TRC431 Navaho. Be careful.... Look into getting it fused somehow....

would stretching out the coils one the inside of the radio do anything? I'm not gonna do it is nobody thinks its a good idea. I have read some things on some cobras and they say to fan out the coils on the inside of the radio when adjusting modulation. does this do any thing? My radio have 2coils on the inside one smaller in diameter and one larger one, If this helps any? Should i or shouldn't I? that is the question

Yeah, I should have told you to unplug it for now... My next door neighbour had one and he unplugged it. He sold it a couple of weeks after he got it because he used to forget it plugged in. He was supposed to try and fuse the radio but I guess he never figured out how....

Lost Ram.. I've never heard of expanding the coils and I have to agree. A good power mic will make that TRC 431 sing.....

Tobin, my personal opinion of the coil spreading theory is that its a hack.

Lost Ram, I think you are spot on with that analysis.... There is a lot of mods and tweaks but why not just tell the person to put a 12 volt cooling fan on the unit.... Fan out the coils... Hahahaha..... Yeah, run a radiator with coolant right next to it.... There should be boards out there that have collant systems running through them like a car... I know it.... Computers have them $$$$$.....

What about dry ice....?? Hmmmmm.... Hack heaven... !
