Need help replacing mod limiter in Grant XL
Need help replacing mod limiter in Grant XL
I found out that Q26 (TR26) has been removed from my grant xl. What value and type of transistor do I need to replace it and how does it need to be positioned on the board? All the other limiters are still intact.

Q26 is a 2SC945 it's a general purpose NPN audio amp and switching transistor a 2N3904 from radio shack would work as a replacement.
No luck. I put in a 2n3904 from radio shack and lost all modulation. I tried adjusting vr7 and still no modulation. I took the transistor back out and I'm back where I started.

Did you make sure the base went to the base collector to collector etc look at the schematic for the grant and the BCE pinouts that came with the transistor and make sure their installed going to the right traces on the circuit board. The pinouts on the 2N3904 are different then the 2SC945 other then that the 2N3904 should work the specs are close enough to the 2SC945.
That's where I screwed up. I just looked at the white marking on the board and soldered it in according to it's shape. I'll give it another shot and thanks again.
It works right with the transistor installed correctly.
I'm getting good audio reports and not bleeding over on my stereo speakers.
