Post by bucko »

hi all
im fairly new to cbs always had them in my off road trucks but im new to modified radios im sure these will be stupid questions to you guys but help would be greatly appreciated, i picked up a cobra 29 LTD the guy said it had the following done buy steel rod Duel finals, RFX 75 swing kit, dead key modified and turbo echo board is it possible that that set up is producing 130 watt and not transmit a dirty signal?

also if it wouldn’t be to much trouble could someone explain the purpose of each mod

thanks
Bucko

I'd have to see it on a meter myself to believe a 4 watt radio is doing 130 watts. Even with mods they usually do what? Like 25W? Maybe 35-40W with dual finals?

Does this guy sell snake oil in his spare time too? :icon_e_wink:
The RFX75 is the dual finals, and not a swing kit and if that radio is doing 130 watts it's being measured
on a very generous meter, or it won't be doing that much power for very long.
Maybe they did the swing mod on it and added the RFX75?
If it was done right, it will be on heck of a talker.
If it was done wrong, it will be a splatter box from H E double hockey sticks.
I hope it's the former and you have a great radio!

Depending on the specific 29...they will do up in the 115-125 area with a RFX. They "sound" clean.
Do they put out a clean sine wave on the scope? No...nor does any other radio that is
tuned past a certain point. Not gonna get into the "it's all fluff watts" debate...other than
to say it's not. Are they all on frequency? No...but far less out of band than a radio with
a clipped limiter or most exports. I've put them both on an accurate meter with a
bencher low pass filter in line where the 54hz signal is 60 db down.
YMMV,

Hi bucko

With an RFX-75 your radio is doing 75 watts peak power. I guarantee that the signal is dirty. It may sound clean, but I bet it can be heard on all 40 channels. It probably looks like this.

[Please login or register to view this link] That would be the photo on the bottom right.
