Yeah, I've installed several of those particular kits. They're fine, and the seller will sometimes throw in an extra one if you get 4 or more.genesbro wrote:I have seen the kit on EBAY, has anyone installed that kit? This sounds like a good mod for sure.
Diode swap for increased recieve gain and less noise

Thank you for the response. Just tried to buy 3 of them but he requires instant payment so I guess I have to get some money into my paypal account first.

I ordered the kit off ebay that used the Fairchild transistor instead of the 2sc2999 and just installed it into my 148 and it did make the receiver a lot quieter. I can hear stations all over the place on channels that before all I heard was noise. On 19 at the distance where they used to have to have one of the modified export radios for me to hear them, now I can hear even the regular cb radios where they were in the grass level before. The kit was about 5 bucks and I say that was quite a bargain for how much it improved the noise level.

New to the site have been reading posts of the dx upgrade and was wondering if anyone has done it to the 99v, ranger rci-6300f-150, or the connex 4300-300 or are they the same as the 959 and cobra conversions. I'm new to the moding department and don't live close to a good radio shop until I get on the road and then i only get by the good ones very rarely. So I have decided to do the mods myself and then take the radios to have the realingments done. I have read all the posts i could find on this subject and have the transistors not really concerned with the diodes due to most everyone says they aren't needed.

If you can do the work then that is all you have to do. There is no alignment required for the parts that are being changed. The only reason for an alignment would be if you just wanted to make sure that you were getting every last spec of receive out of the radio and if you are using it in a mobile the noise level in that enviroment would probably coverup any gains you got out of the tune.love2wheelie wrote:New to the site have been reading posts of the dx upgrade and was wondering if anyone has done it to the 99v, ranger rci-6300f-150, or the connex 4300-300 or are they the same as the 959 and cobra conversions. The transistor change does give it better ears. I have done it to two of my radios and on them if there isn't someone one on the air when you turn on the radio it is very easy to have it too loud when someone does come over the air because the noise level is so much reduced.
Mine are cobras.

Basically all the transistors are the same from radio to radio. just different numbers. Sorry I know my way around a iron and a board but not have attempted any mods to my radios. They all cost more than my xbox's or ps3's . Thanks Mark

Any time you make a modification on the original design of something, you void the warranty. Exception: You're the engineer of the product and are responsible for it.Lost Cuase wrote:if i do this mod to my stryker 447 do you think it will void the warranty?

Was wondering if any one would know which transister it is in the 6300f-150 that has to be changed along with the diodes. The board isn't labeled well at all or does anyone know were i can get a plastic overlay sheet that gives all the numbers and placements. All so I did the rx transistor in my 99v/959 and holey crap not too quote to much but i can hear for miles and miles. Am recieving were there wasn't anything before.... Most arguable the best upgrade i have done. Thanks for the help to those who gave...

If you have good eyesight there's a PCB layout showing the parts location in the back of the service manual for the 6300f-150 on cb tricks.
