Galaxy DX 2547
I just recently bought a Galaxy DX 2547 that quote on quote "has extras." Now i know the legalities of selling things on fleabay and stating what mods have been done. When i receive the radio i would like to be able to see what has been done to it. Does anyone know where i can get a list of all the mods that can be done to the radio and what is done.
Thanks,
paBullwinkle

The only mods that can be done are channels and opening the Clarifier. You will find that the radio will be useless on SSB until it is properly aligned. I would not bother with the receive modification. You would be better off getting an external receive pre-amp.paBullwinkle wrote:I just recently bought a Galaxy DX 2547 that quote on quote "has extras." Rick,
I thank you very much. According to the seller the radio was peaked and tuned. I may just have to get a good frequincy counter and check that. Can you recommend a frequency counter that is of good quality and wont break the bank\
Thanks,
paBullwinkle

Hi paBullwinkle,
You will not notice the alignment problem on AM, but on sideband it is critical. A frequency counter will not help unless you inject a 1,000 hertz tone at the Mic and measure it with a counter. On lower sideband the frequency should read 1KHz lower than on AM and on upper sideband it will read 1KHz higher.
For example, on AM channel 20 the Transmit frequency will be 27.2050 MHz. On LSB it will read 27.2040 MHz and on USB it will read 27.2060 MHz. If the clarifer is unlocked then it will need to be aligned because Tx and Rx may not track properly.

Hi Rick,
I plan on using the radio to switch betwean AM and SSB ALOT. I am hopping the clarifier on this rig is still locked for the fact that having an unlock clairifier could end up in a loop trying to tune another station in. If the clarifier is unlocked what equipment would i need to properly verify that the radio is aligned properly?

That is a good radio, it has a digital freq. readout on it. As the CBDoc said, it may need to be aligned, try it out first on SSB and see. A trusted local operator is the best way to find out, just communicate and see how it sounds to them. Adding extra channels is usually done by using one of the exisiting switches already on the radio.

if i decide to add extra channels i would probably use the channel 9/ channel 19 instant switch or wire a few switches on the back of the radio

I have one that I purchased from Sparky, peaked and tuned. I use another radio now, it will be in the "For Sale" area.

Well i am going to give you guys an update. The radio arrived today. It has definitely been peaked and tuned. The clarifier seems to have been unlocked and it has had the EXTRA CHANNELS mod done to it. Now with the extra channels mod does the frequency counter on the front register the change in channels?
