irf520?

i was wondering if there is more than 1 type of irf520? i did a cross reference through a local electronics suplier and it came up with a nte2382 but it is listed as an N-channel enhancement mode high speed switch? the data sheet looks simalar to the irf520 sheets i have seen but im not sure if it will work? thank you for any help im wanting to mod my cobra29 and realy want to try to stay local for ease of finding parts here is a link [Please login or register to view this link]

Hi bigdog853,

If you looked up IFR-520 and that was the cross reference in an NTE, then it will work. I did not notice any frequency range mentioned, but unlike Bi-polar transistors, MOSFETs have very little stray or internal capacitance. I would say as long as the Pin-out is the same it should work.

It won't hurt anything to give it a try. They are no longer making Bi-polar transistors; everyone is manufacturing MOSFETs, not because they are better, but because they are cheaper to make. You will not gain anything by switching to a MOSFET Final. If you are looking to experiment, then have fun and enjoy; that is the only way anyone can learn. Hands on experience is the best experience.

cool! thank you i have done the ekl mod in another radio and i liked the big audio i got from it i just didnt want to have to order another kit for my new radio if i could get the parts localy :biggrin:
