Uniden Grant XL Meter Modification
Call me crazy, but, aside from the "fitting it in" issues, would I be able to get a Galaxy DX949 meter to work on my Uniden Grant XL? Both meters have scales for Signal, RF Power & SWR. However, the DX949 meter also has a Modulation scale. Would I be able to make the Modulation function on the Grant XL as well? I'm aware this may be a little bit of work. I'd also guess that the Galaxy meter would need to be calibrated to the Grant XL. I love that big meter, easy to read in the mobile.

It should work the meter would probably have to be calibrated for the S and RF readings but to read the modulation a circuit would have to be added in the Grant for that.

Now there's some good news!
I'll have to do some research on that circuit to read Modulation. Thanks Night Crawler.

You have probably already found this BUT here's the schematic for the DX949.

The one you linked to is much better then the one I have. Easy to read on the computer, too! Thanks paBullwinkle!

It won't work due to the design of the meter, which would occupy the entire left quarter of the radio. The meter is more like what you'd find in a Cobra 2000 or so - that style of meter, it would require major surgery to your Grant XL to get it to fit.

I see what you mean, Black Lightning. It's a big meter all right! There is room in the Grant XL for it. I should have mentioned that also with the faceplate/bezel, I have the backing plate from a DX949 with a meter on it. Still lots & lots of work, though.
