Galaxy DX-44
Hey Guys,
I recently bought a Galaxy 44 from a friend to put in my truck. He told me that he had it "turned up" when he bought it about 12 yrs ago. Is there any way that I can check to see if it is modified? If not, is there a way that I can do it myself. I am going to be hot shotting some and just want a good radio to chat on and maybe catch a skip here or there.
Thanks

like mentioned above... hook it up to a good meter, and see what it says. that radio is a dual final radio, and id hope for 40 watts at least.
if you dont have a meter, save up and buy one (the radio shack one is a great entry level meter) or take it to a reputable cb shop.

its a single final radio, 1969 if its factory.mine would do 25 on average. check it on a meter to see if the AVG power swings alot
The more watts you swing, the more people you bring. BREAK!

Yep , 25-30 watts is about what to expect from a 1969 final radio.

I just bought a DX44v and took it to the shop today. I paid for a tune up and alignment. While I was there the tech told me that I was swinging about 68 watts. I hooked up my meter and it only shows 12. Did I get screwed? I believe so. I really want to have a loud radio that I can talk about 30 miles. I think the galaxy can do it but I need to know how to tune it for max swing. Also I am in the market for a small amp. Something like a midnight special 250. If any one could help it would be great.

I would be hesitant to say that he cheated you, but I would say his meter wasn't accurate, at least. I have a DX 88 dual final and it does around 25 watts AM and SSB and that's what I would expect from the DX 44 as well. You should check your deadkey as well as your swing as too much deadkey will kill an amp and is a waste of energy and hard on your radio's finals as well.

So I switched my antenna 4'firestick for my 102 ss. I was talking to 500 in Brunswick Ga. I am in Hinesville Ga and it's like 30-40 mile trip. I am sure he has power behind his radio because he was pushing 7-8lbs. He told me That I was pushing 4-6. Not bad I guess. Maybe my meter is faulty. My deadkey is about 2 watts and swing to 10. I wish I could get a little more. Any help would be great.
