Which DX-979 Mods To Get?

#333917

Post by Wheelerdude »

I'm getting a DX-979 and am finalizing what to get with the little money left over. Tune and peak sounds like a given.
Question - Does unlocking the clarifier require a re-alignment or retune? I think I can unlock the clarifier based on what I've seen, but if scopes and tuning is required, then I don't have what's needed. Also, if I get the clarifier unlocked now do I need an FC now or can I get the FC later? Other mods that are beneficial and inexpensive?

Any opinions on best shops to deal with? Not much around Spokane it seems.

Thanks!!

Hi Wheelerdude,
Welcome to the forum. If you are having a P & T done to the radio it make sense to have the clarifier done at the same time. Most new radios need a alignment right out of the box and the alignment will put the TX and RX sync. You can get the frequency counter after you do the channel mods, that way you will know where you are at on the band.

Just curious. What mods and frequency counter did you get? I have a 979 also and I got a peak and tune, roger beep and connected a Galaxy FC347 frequency counter.

A quick easy mod if you want a Roger Beep its already built in the radio.Right behind the Meter is a small box that says RB and 8v.Put two wires in the holes and hook to a switch and you have a Roger Beep.
All radios tuned by the best me.

That roger beep mod works gread, ive done that on a few radios so far, you defmwant to unlock the clarifier with the P&T, and for sure align it cause my 929 was on 27.1842 on channel 19 and not 27.1850, so idmdo it all in one shot while you have it open
DeMoN 345 Soon To be WORLDWIDE
Ive got so many radios i my signature wont let me list them all
